“Credit Union for Students”, “PSFCU Mascot” and “Astronomy Adventure with Copernicus”
On May 24th, 2012 the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union held an awards ceremony for the “Credit Union for Students”, “PSFCU Mascot” and “Astronomy Adventure with Copernicus” Contests at the Headquarters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Forty Schools participated in the “Credit Union for Students” contest, where teachers from the schools recognized top students in two age groups (each school had their own criteria), taking into account the child’s grades, diligence, punctuality, and overall involvement in school activities and Polonia. The students chosen by the schools received $100, courtesy of PSFCU, deposited into their accounts at the PSFCU.
Seven winners of the “Astronomy Adventure with Copernicus” received all-expense paid  week long camp to the Kopernik Observatory & Science Center in Vestal, NY.  Finalists were chosen based on the quiz they took testing their knowledge of the life and work of Mikolaj Kopernik. Winners will study the solar system, planets and their moons, learn about recent discoveries, and the possibilities of missions into space and the potential for using robots, participate in a solar photography session using telescopes and other equipment, and so much more. The Kopernik Observatory & Science Center was built by the Kopernik Society, who also runs the observatory. It is known as one of the best observatories in the North East for more than 30 years.
In the “PSFCU Mascot” contest participants of all ages, from 5 years of age to 18 years of age, came up with suggestions for a PSFCU mascot, which would potentially be adopted as the official PSFCU children’s mascot. The PSFCU awarded a grand prize of $300 as well as awards and recognitions for runners up.
During the ceremony the “Being Polish” contest sponsored by the PSFCU was also mentioned, which took place in Poland in May 2012. A number of our young members were awarded prizes and certificates.  We congratulate all the winners, to view a list of winners of all three contests please click on the link below.
