The Pulaski Parade Memorial Committee
becomes the fifth sponsor for PSFCU

When opening an account Credit Union members
have more choices of sponsoring organizations

The General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee has become the next sponsor of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union. It is already the fifth sponsoring organization that has decided to form a close relationship with Our Credit Union. For many years now Polish Friends of Copiague, Polish Cultural Foundation and Polish-Slavic Center and recently, Polish Supplementary School Council of America have been PSFCU sponsors.

“We share common goals. We want to help Polonia support and cultivate our Polish tradition and aid the development of the Polish-American community. I think that together with PSFCU we will be able to succeed in promoting and supporting our culture abroad”. – said Richard Zawisny, the President of the Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee.

The General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee has founded and organized one of the New York’s oldest ethnic parades. The Pulaski Parade evolved from the General Krzyzanowski Committee which fought to win recognition for the Polish hero of the War of Independence.

Thanks to their efforts, General Pulaski’s remains have been re-interred at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, an honor bestowed upon people who had served United States. To celebrate this achievement,  members of the Committee, John Pateracki and Francis Wazeter organized a special parade in New York City.

The Pulaski Parade continues the tradition of remembering Polish heroes in United States, especially two Polish generals of the American army: Casimir Pulaski and Thaddeus Kosciuszko, who fought for America’s freedom during the War of Independence (1775-1783).

“We welcome an organization of such long and rich tradition. Our Credit Union can now serve Polonia on a much bigger scale. Future PSFCU members will have the choice of membership in one of five sponsoring organizations,” said Krzysztof Matyszczyk, Chairman of PSFCU Board of Directors. “It has always been our goal to reach the largest number of Polonia in the US; we hope that thanks to another sponsor we will be even more effective.”

Every year, the Committee selects an annual theme that highlights contributions made by Polish people towards the development of US. Last year, the Parade theme was “400th Anniversary of Poles in Jamestown,” and the year before “The New Generation of Polonia Continues to Build America.”

The Pulaski Parade is a large scale event and requires many months of planning. Throughout the year, the Committee organizes the meetings aimed at mobilizing new members and gathering the funds for the promotion of the biggest manifestation of Polish pride on the East Coast of the US. The Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union is a diamond sponsor of the parade and has participated in the event for many years.
